Dried orange peel

I worked at Hoxton Hall for years, a classic Victorian music hall in East London. When they took up the balcony floorboards to renovate they found programmes dating from the 1860s, with evidence of Victorian snacks; scattered orange peels, whelk shells and walnut shells amongst the cigarettes, buttons and dust.
